How to Measure Your Dog for a Carrier Bag

Record body length, standing height, and current weight, then compare them with the exact carrier’s usable interior dimensions and weight limit. A dog being described as “small” or weighing less than a stated limit does not establish that the bag has enough space.

Make a measurement record first

Have your dog stand naturally on a level surface. Record body length from the front of the chest to the base of the tail, standing height to the top of the head or ears as relevant, and current weight. If the carrier maker specifies another measuring method, use that method for the final comparison.

Keep the units beside each measurement. Inches multiplied by 2.54 give centimeters; centimeters divided by 2.54 give inches. Do not estimate size from the breed name or transfer a clothing size to a bag. Our fit guide includes a printable record.

Ask for usable interior dimensions

Outside dimensions include the bag’s construction and do not necessarily describe usable space. Ask for internal length, width, and height for the specific size, along with the weight limit and any guidance on how the dog should sit or settle.

Consider the space needed to turn and settle comfortably, not just whether the dog can enter the opening. A soft side panel should not be treated as extra guaranteed space beyond the stated dimensions. If measurements are close or unclear, get confirmation before choosing.

Check the exact model and size

Our Breathable Pet Carrier Bag is listed in S and L, with mesh windows, carry handles, a shoulder strap, an inner leash, and a washable cushion pad. The internal dimensions and weight capacity are still being confirmed. This guide therefore cannot tell you that either size will fit your dog.

The inner leash is a listed feature, not a crash-restraint certification. Check how it is intended to attach, how the bag closes, and how the dog is supported. Follow the product’s instructions rather than guessing at a use from a photograph.

Separate everyday carrying from transport approval

A bag sold for travel is not automatically approved for a flight or every form of public transport. If you intend to fly, obtain the current requirements directly from the airline for your booking and compare them with the actual bag. The carrier’s product title is not evidence of acceptance.

This soft carrier is also not described here as a crash-tested car restraint. Choose vehicle travel equipment according to its documented use and testing, rather than treating a carrying handle, inner leash, or shoulder strap as a restraint system.

Prepare for a comfortable first use

Once the fit and capacity have been confirmed, introduce the carrier calmly at home and follow its instructions. Check that ventilation areas remain clear and that carrying straps and closures are correctly fastened. Reassess if the dog cannot settle comfortably.

The Small Dog Travel Kit combines this bag with the 2-in-1 bottle. Check the bag’s size independently of the bottle choice. A kit bundles products; it does not establish fit, transport acceptance, or suitability for a particular trip.
